Mack McAfee made the mistake of asking neighbor Mary Jo Wyse to marry him when they first meet. At first they were both thrilled, then their feet came back to earth as they realized they hardly know each other. Mary Jo is concerned that her young daughter’s dad will try to take Noelle away from her. Mack is ever watchful for David Rhodes, Noelle’s father. He is not sure what he would do if David shows up, but he does know he would protect both Mary Jo and Noelle with his life. When Mary Jo finds a box of letters from WWII hidden in the floorboards, she asks Mack to help her solve the mystery of the man behind the letters. Will investigating a long-lost love through letters help Mack and Mary Jo with theirs? (MIRA, Sep., 368 pp., $7.99)
