Book Review

13 TO LIFE
by Shannon Delany

Genre: Young Adult, Paranormal

RT Rating

This has a typical storyline, the paranormal aspect taking a backseat to the overly described drama in Jessica’s life. Readers are left wondering about her Big Secret for a while, which becomes as annoying as the overuse of werewolf puns. There is little depth to most of the characters, and while the ending is good, this novel does not impress.

Jessica’s life in small town Junction changes after Pietr, a Russian new boy, comes to town. While she is drawn to him, she senses there’s something off about his family, but is too focused on her tragic past to see anything strange. As her research of nearby wolf attacks goes deeper, she realizes there’s much more to Pietr’s family than she thought. (ST. MARTIN’S GRIFFIN, Jul., 320 pp., $9.99, ISBN: 9780312609146, TR, 12 & Up)
