Emily Hendrickson spins the fascinating tale of THE ABANDONED RAKE (3). A wealthy nobleman jilted at the altar heads for the Lake Country to get away from the resultant notoriety, only to run into an independent society beauty also trying to escape the London scene. Their initial hostile reaction to each other turns into friendship, and perhaps something more, when they are stalked by a mysterious assailant for reasons unknown. Although the intrigue subplot breaks down in its resolution, this subtly developed romance succeeds marvelously as a delicious comedy of manners.
