Psychic Abby Cooper usually has a sense of what's going to happen to people. So she's shocked that she doesn't get even a hint of the murder that befalls one of her clients.

Then the detective in charge of the case, Dutch Rivers, who just happens to be a man Abby went out with on a date, doesn't believe her when she tries to give the police information that could help the case. They think she's a suspect—and a fraud—so Abby ends up working the case herself. Soon the murderer is nervous and Abby's life is in danger.

Laurie's novel is well written and unpredictable. Everything about this book is highly original. Abby is a fun protagonist with just enough bravado to keep her going. In future books, it would be nice to see Abby's relationship with Dutch explored further. (Dec., 304 pp., $5.99)
