THE ACCIDENTAL VIRGIN
by Valerie Frankel

Genre: Mainstream, Chick lit

RT Rating

Thongs.com marketer Stacy Temple hasn't had sex in nearly a year. She's been so busy being a dot-com slave (working long hours, thinking about stock options, dreaming of being a millionaire) that she hardly noticed! After hearing about it from a friend, she reads an essay written by Gigi XXX, an online sex columnist. She tells readers that if a woman doesn't have sex for a whole year, then she becomes a virgin again (in theory). Stacy is horrified when she realizes she has one week to find someone to have sex with in order to maintain her non-virgin status. Surely she can hook up with her ex-boyfriend, her best male friend or a deliveryman who speaks little English. Right?

Make no mistake, this book is about one woman's quest to have casual sex. Readers will learn a little about Stacy and her tumultuous job too, but sex is the main topic. Frankel is a witty writer, which is perhaps best demonstrated during Stacy's Match.com date. A fantastical farce with a neat twist at the end. (Mar., 288 pp., $13.95)
