This tale of what two girls will do to be famous is shocking. Finn is a realistically naïve teen and Chloe unpredictably diabolical. A haunting story about the conflict between self-preservation and doing what’s right. With twists up to the last page, Corrigan keeps you guessing.

Finn and Chloe are sophomores in high school, and suddenly getting into college is a big deal. Pressure from guidance counselors to stand out on their college applications has made 4-H and student council suddenly seem like not enough. The girls hatch a plan to make themselves instantly famous. Chloe will disappear and, once they gain national media attention, Finn will rescue her. They make lists and plan, then stage Chloe’s abduction. It’s supposed to be the perfect crime — no one would get hurt. Until everything goes wrong … (SCHOLASTIC, Aug., 304 pp., $17.99, ISBN: 9780545052368, HC, 12 & Up)
