THE ACCUSED (4.5) by Jana DeLeon: Thanks to the codicil of her stepfather’s will, attorney Alaina LeBeau has to spend two weeks under her family home’s roof in order to get her inheritance. Sheriff Carter Trahan has been assigned to babysit the heiress to make sure she stays in residence, and he’s not happy with the assignment — no matter how sexy he thinks she is. When a series of break-ins and random attacks seem designed to scare her away, Carter makes it his business to find the culprit. DeLeon really captures the creepiness of the Louisiana swamps, and she piles on the shivers in this atmospheric and compelling read.
