ADOPTED: OUTBACK BABY
Twenty years ago, quilt artist Nell Ruthven and cattleman Jacob Tucker were lovers. After their breakup, Nell had a daughter, Tegan, and gave her up. Now Tegan's dead, and her adoptive parents want Nell to raise her son. Things are tense between Nell and Jacob at first, but then he invites her to his outback home for a month, so he can get to know the baby. Nell agrees, and while she's there, they resume their affair -- but is it too late to hope for a future? Barbara Hannay's Adopted: Outback Baby (3) has an emotionally charged beginning and likable enough characters, but the promising conflict fades away, leaving nothing much in its wake.
