After eight years with Kieran, Clarissa Schneckberg expects an engagement ring. She even quit her job to devote her time to being a housewife. Unfortunately, Clarissa's expectations never become reality. Kieran dumps her on the night she's expecting the ring, leaving her unemployed and single. Then an opportunity opens up that Clarissa never would have considered in the past—a job offer in Antarctica. Along with her two best friends, Clarissa sets off for a whole new life.

This is a light, fun read that follows Clarissa's growth as she learns to solve her problems. The atypical ending adds a fresh twist to the chick lit tale. The arctic background is so interesting, it would have been nice to see more of it. (Oct., 272 pp., $12.95)
