AFTER THE WRECK, I PICKED MYSELF UP, SPREAD MY WINGS, AND FLEW AWAY

Author(s):
Jenna is the sole survivor of a car crash that killed her mother. Now she must live with her aunt, since her father has a "new" family. She tries to adjust, but her depression leads to bad decisions. Crow, an older boy, will make things better -- or perhaps worse.

Oates writes as beautifully as ever in her fifth book for teens, and Jenna is a complex but likeable character. Crow and his biker gang are an old-fashioned cliche. Still, this is another success. (Aug., 304 pp., $16.99, ISBN: 0060735252, HC, 14 and up)
