In this penultimate novel, the results of Killbox’s nail-biting cliffhanger are fully revealed. Ever the lone wolf, Sirantha Jax went against military command to try and save a galaxy; now she must pay the price. This novel is a turning point for the series as it wraps up storylines for a number of characters while setting up a final challenge. Aguirre continues to demonstrate why she is fast becoming a force in several genres.

To save the galaxy from the armada of flesh-eating Morgut, Jax destroyed the grimspace beacons, which, sadly, also cost the lives of 600 Conglomerate soldiers. That she manages to return from grimspace herself is a miracle, but instead of a heroic welcome, Jax is put on trial for dereliction of duty, desertion, mass murder and high treason … the penalty for which could be her life. With her friends initially forced to keep their distance, Jax must face her inner demons and guilt alone. Plus, if she survives this, she still wants to find a way to deliver on her promise to free Lorcas’ people. (ACE, Sep., 310 pp., $7.99)
