Due to earthquake aftershocks, Mayor Patrick O'Shea is trapped in an elevator with the one woman his professional ethic keeps him from dating—his administrative assistant, Briana Bliss. Briana is stuck in close quarters with the man she fears may have planted a false story about her beloved uncle. But her attraction to Patrick can't be denied. As the two wait in the dark for help, passions begin to surface, despite their attempts at restraint. Nancy Warren's Aftershocks (4.5) is a well-constructed novel with strong conflicts and rising emotional stakes. The author includes key characters previously featured in the Code Red series and keeps them acting believably.
