UP AGAINST IT
Genre: Science Fiction, General Science Fiction 2011 Science Fiction Novel Nominee Locke has created a nuanced, interesting world and a spectacular heroine. The characters are well-developed; especially noteworthy are the very realistically drawn teenagers. The engrossing plot and expertly woven narrative will keep readers engaged until the final page. The asteroid colony Phoecea, dependent on ice for survival, suffers a devastating blow to its supply. Resource manager Jane Navio suspects Martian mobsters are manipulating events, but when she’s fired as a scapegoat, her ability to steer Phoecea through the crisis is limited, forcing her to turn to some unlikely allies, including four teenagers, for help in saving their home and her reputation.
