Sandlin’s fantastic imagination makes the fourth outing in the Penton Legacy Series a fast- paced, exciting read that builds on the previous books while adding new twists to the contemporary universe she’s constructed. Picking up in the aftermath of the town’s destruction, the alliance between the scathe’s vampires and the human Army Rangers brings a familiar face back to Penton while introducing intriguing new characters.

Efforts to rebuild Penton and bring in new unvaccinated donors for the scathe slow down when random acts of sabotage result in Ranger Rob Thomas’ death and trauma for Hannah. When the unvaccinated blood banks Aidan set up with his Omega Force allies are bombed, it becomes obvious that someone in power is trying to send Aidan a message. But there’s more bad news: Matthias Ludlam has escaped his execution. Is he behind the destruction? Time will tell, but for the remaining vampires and humans in Penton, acceptance of two newcomers could mean the difference between life and death as their unique abilities are quickly put to the test.
