ALMOST A HOMETOWN BRIDE (3) by Helen R. Myers: Waitress Merritt Miller is intrigued by handsome, tall Cain Paxton, though the other townspeople avoid him like the plague. Cain is recently released from prison and is back in town to prove his innocence. Both Cain and Merritt come from tortured pasts and find common ground. Their connection leads to a love neither of them expects. This is a poignant story of two battered souls who find a safe place with each other. Though the story is enjoyable and has a strong premise, the pacing in the beginning slows it down quite a bit.
