Expert storyteller Drake invites readers to join her in a spirited and spellbinding new series, featuring a magical tattoo artist. Gage’s backstory is intriguing and laden with issues that are, shall we say, a tad life-threatening? The author does a great job of introducing her mesmerizing new world and then filling it with a truly compelling cast of characters. She is on track to deliver another outstanding and inventive series.

When you are born with magic, you have no choice but to study to become a witch or a warlock and reside in the imposing Ivory Towers. Until Gage Powell comes along. Gage does something unheard of: He breaks away from his warlock mentor, Simon. That choice places Gage under magical restriction — he can only use defensive magic. So Gage sets up shop as a tattoo artist in Low Town, becoming known for tattoos with a little something “extra.” He also gains employees and friends in Trixie the elf and Bronx the troll. Unfortunately for Gage, things start to go to hell fast after a tattoo goes terribly wrong, Trixie’s past catches up with her and Simon decides he wants Gage dead.
