Anna Walsh moves back in with her parents in Ireland to recuperate after a car crash in the U.S. leaves her seriously injured. Her mother is her sympathetic nurse, Anna's sister Helen is a private investigator with some truly zany adventures and her domesticated sister Maggie lives nearby and comes to her parents' home daily to join Anna for a walk.

Anna recalls her life before the injuries, when she was working for a high-end cosmetic company in New York. She remembers her first meeting with Aidan, the love of her life. After recovering, she returns to New York, burying herself in her work at Candy Grrl Cosmetics and repeatedly phoning and e-mailing Aidan, though she gets no response. Through flashbacks, readers discover the truth behind Aidan and Anna's relationship.

Poignant emotion and crafty humor form the backbone of this novel. Anna is an affable protagonist who conquers the ups and downs of life with the support of family and friends. Keyes' witty writing is certain to appeal to fans of women's fiction. (Jun., 464 pp., $24.95)
