Lyda Morehouse has written a little gem readers might have overlooked. In a near future, Deidre McMannus is an ex-cop, forcibly unplugged from the interactive LINK for allegedly consorting with a criminal. She is now a private investigator with very little resources. When angels start infesting the web, she doesnt pay much attention until a new client, Michael Angelucci, asks her to expose them as fakes. In exchange, hell even get her LINK connection restored. Deidres not sure about this case because if the LINK-angels are fake, how can they broadcast emotions when no other person or corporation has been able to? Theres something about Michael, and his friends, Raphael, Ariel and Morningstar that convince the Catholic Deidre she might just be in over her faith in ARCHANGEL PROTOCOL (4.5). A brilliant first novel with fast-paced action, vivid characters and flawless execution, Ms. Morehouse serves up a futuristic thriller with a twist. (May, 352 pp., $6.99)
