This is typical romance fare, pared down to befit its intended teen audience. The soap-opera plot and flat characters drag for a few chapters too long, and there’s certainly nothing groundbreaking, but the charm here lies in McAdams’ unpretentious refusal to pretend to have written anything other than addictive, guilty-pleasure fun.
Cassidy and Tyler have been best friends since childhood — in fact, Tyler is Cassie’s only friend: her rock, confidant and protection from her family life. When Tyler moves to Texas for college, Cassie moves with him. But as Cassie begins falling for Tyler’s gorgeous cousin, the lines of their lifelong friendship start to blur.
