A BABY IN HIS STOCKING (3) by Laura Marie Altom: The Buckhorn family of Weed Gulch has grown to epic proportions; the whole family has settled down with wives and are producing babies, but that doesn’t seem to be in the cards for Wyatt, who’s still dealing with the blow of a diagnosis of infertility. Meanwhile, grade school chum Natalie has just been dumped by the man she had hoped to marry, and is pregnant. Forced to band together to take care of a slew of Buckhorn babes after a family emergency, the friendship they’ve always had has ignited, but Natalie’s not sure whether Wyatt’s interest is in her or her unborn babe. Altom could have had a top-notch tale here, but the push-me-pull-you antagonistic relationship between the couple isn’t conducive to romantic sparks, no matter how she pushes her characters into that corner.
