The second Rainbow Valley book weaves a fairy-tale romance into the real world of heartaches, struggles and tough choices, and Graves balances both with surprising skill. The main couple’s chemistry is searing because of, and in spite of, their differences, and their journey together is emotional and moving. Equally significant, the relationship between the hero and his daughter is treated with wonderful sympathy and gentle humor. All this makes Graves’ latest a heartwarming read on every level and a sure success.

Kari Worthington is desperate to escape the life she never properly fit into. She ditches her own wedding and sets off for the Texas Hills where she hopes to find a job and a new life for herself — alone. Marc Cordero has devoted his life to his family’s winery and his daughter. But now that she’s going away to college and his brother is helping with the business, Marc can’t wait to set off on an adventure all his own. Then, Kari bursts into town, wedding dress and all. The connection between Kari and Marc is instant, but can either of them risk this fling becoming something more permanent? (FOREVER, Jun., 400 pp., $8.00)
