An acute attack of indigestion scares Raina Chandler into taking drastic measures. Her three bachelor sons are well past the age where they should be happily married, and Raina decides to use this attack to her advantage. She tells them she has a weak heart and all she wants is to see them settled with children before she dies.

Chase, Rick and Roman Chandler don't want to get married but they do want their mother happy. They flip a coin to see who will bite the bullet first and Roman loses. The problem is that Roman is not about to give up his globetrotting newspaperreporter lifestyle. Then he finds out that his old heartthrob Charlotte Bronson is in town.

Charlotte wants all or nothing. Her father abandoned the family and took off for Hollywood years before. Can Roman convince her that she should take a chance on him?

Not only is this an all-around good story, the characters are real and worth rooting for. I enjoyed the bit of mystery with a panty thief on the loose and eagerly look forward to reading Roman's brothers' stories. (Jul., 400 pp., $5.99)
