Book Review

by Judith Pella

Genre: Inspirational, Historical Fiction

RT Rating

Pella gives us delightful characters in this story of a church's sewing circle in post-Civil War America. The novel moves quickly, and its plot points are sweet. That Pella is herself a quilter brings authenticity to the sewing settings, and the friendship between the members is sweet and touching.

The new preacher Zach Hartley is young, handsome and available. Who cares that he only rides through town twice a month? Not the ladies of the sewing circle. They decide to make a quilt. It quickly turns into a competition -- with secret hopes of the pastor-bachelor as the prize. But Zach has secrets of his own. Whose heart
will come out of this in one piece? (Bethany House, Jun., 432 pp., $13.99)
