BAD TO THE BONE

"Rock 'n' roll is here to stay, just like vampires." That's both the motto of radio station WVMP and Smith-Ready's offbeat and hugely entertaining series. Once again readers step into the shoes of reformed con artist Ciara Griffen. The characters have loads of baggage, which complicates their already unusual lives. Luckily for readers, Smith-Ready is also here to stay!

Talk about a complicated life! Not only is Ciara trying to keep vampire-run radio station WVMP profitable, she's also masquerading as Elizabeth, the now truly deceased station owner. On the positive side, Ciara's relationship with vampire boyfriend Shane McAllister is going well and she adopts a dog. That the dog is also a vampire is just indicative of Ciara's increasingly weird life.

Events take a nasty turn when a quasi-religious group starts hacking into the station's signal and setting vicious vampire traps. It's up to Ciara to find a way to make the attacks a PR win and stop the violence before things get truly nasty. (POCKET, May, 384 pp., $15.00)
