Book Review

BARCELONA CALLING
by Jane Kirkpatrick

Genre: Inspirational, Mainstream

RT Rating

Kirkpatrick attempted to create a fun story about a group of friends helping each other, but ended up with a novel about trying to get a book published and publicized on the Oprah show. The details are fascinating, but characters get lost in the shuffle of the occasionally slapstick events.

Annie Shaw has published two novels and is at work on her third, which she hopes will help her career take off. Her friends suggest that getting her book mentioned and recommended by Oprah would be a surefire way to get recognized. Annie sets off on a mission to meet Oprah — by any means possible — with some pretty funny results. (ZONDERVAN, Oct., 320 pp., $14.99)
