On holiday in St. Bonaventure, Alice Gunning doesn't expect to run into marine ecologist Will Paxman -- her former love. A single dad, Will needs a nanny for his young daughter, and he persuades Alice to fill in until he can find someone permanent. Despite their history, Will gets more than a nanny, and Alice gets more than a temporary job -- but her life is elsewhere. Jessica Hart's Barefoot Bride (3) is
a reunion story that never completely hits its stride. The conflict is solid, and so is the plot, but the characters are just too hard to like.
