When her mother's godson, professional sailor Nic Verdini, comes to the family vineyard to convalesce after a boating accident, the last thing Samantha Hopewell expects is friendship -- their first meeting a year ago was inauspicious in the extreme. Yet Samantha finds herself confiding in Nic about everything from work to her fertility woes. Nic proposes marrying so that he can give Samantha the child she desperately wants, and she accepts -- but will the temporary arrangement be enough, for either of them? Kate Welsh's A Bargain Called Marriage (3) has one main strength -- nicely developed and layered characters and their believably paced relationship. Otherwise, it's pretty standard stuff.
