RT Rating

King–Bey is a smooth writer who presents a creative and interesting story that will have readers gravitating to her next. It's easy to identify and sympathize with the characters and their delicate emotional states. Yet this author also lets you see past the emotional dysfunction and discover the true art of love and lovemaking.

Nefertiti is a young woman who's trying to cope with the aftermath of a barbaric attack. As she recovers, she finds that she's not only hiding from the world but also from herself. Bruce is suffering from depression, which manifests itself in bouts of rage. His limits are tested daily as he tries to deal with Nefertiti's disfigurement.

Individually, Nefertiti and Bruce are a pair of dysfunctional messes, but together they demonstrate the healing powers of love and demonstrate the beauty in us all. (Parker, Dec., 250 pp., $9.95)
