BEG FOR MERCY
Genre: Romantic Suspense, General Romantic Suspense 2011 Romantic Suspense Award Winner Megan Flynn is one determined woman. Anyone would be lucky to have her on their side. Alden’s emotionally gripping Beg for Mercy makes readers beg for mercy, too. It’s not for the squeamish as some of the murder scenes are quite violent, sexually intense and graphic. However, if you can handle it, this a high-caliber romantic suspense — exactly what the genre should be! Megan Flynn’s world dropped out from under her the day her boyfriend arrested her beloved brother for murder. Now her brother is sitting on death row, and with only days left until he’s going to be put to death, Megan will stop at nothing to find the truth. She knows he didn’t kill anyone. A serial killer’s pattern resembles the same crime her brother was convicted of. Megan turns to the only person who can possibly help her save her brother’s life — Cole Williams, her ex-boyfriend and the one that put him away. Cole fights the familiar longing whenever Megan is in the room. She’s asking him to risk his job and do the impossible — help her clear her brother’s name. Even after all these years, Cole cannot turn away. And when they start digging into a string of serial murders, Cole must protect Megan and risk everything he’s worked so hard to achieve to uncover the truth. It has been a couple of years since Jami Alden published anything and, having read many of her backlist, I have to admit I was eager to get my hands on a copy of her newest novel - needless to say I was not disappointed!!
This is tense romantic thriller which, whilst not a relaxing book, was definitely a gripping one. I felt the characters' emotions keenly especially the heroine's desperation and determination to uncover the truth. She is the type of lead female character I actually like - not a kick-ass bitch but also not a doormat. The hero was yummy too - strong, believable and, of course, hot.
I have no hesitation in recommending this book to lovers of contemporary romance/romantic suspense. Bravo, Ms Alden!
