BEHIND CLOSED DOORS
This book's main strength is the characters. Both Harry and Laura are likable, and their relationship is the foundation of the story. But it's definitely for those who like their fiction heavy on suspense and light on romance.
One terrible night, the lives of Harry Kendall and his wife, Laura Clark, change forever. Intruders assault and bind Harry, then brutally rape Laura. Harry's enraged by the police's lack of progress and launches his own investigation, becoming so obsessed that he loses perspective. He endangers not only his own life but Laura's as well. If that's not bad enough, Laura then learns she's pregnant. But whose child is she carrying? (MIRA, Oct., 384 pp., $6.99)
