New readers will have no trouble coming into the series with this book, and fans of the de la Vega Cats books are going to love the story of Mia and Gibson. This super-hot shifter story has plenty of tension before things really get going, and the longtime feud between the families gives it a bit of a Romeo and Juliet feel. Gibson may not be the alpha, but he has an alpha/protector vibe to him. But never fear: Mia is no shrinking violet and is a tenacious fighter every step of the way.

Still recovering from the effects of a terrible hate crime, Mia Porter ends up saving the life of Gibson de la Vega, the Bringer of her local group of shapeshifting were-jaguars. The cat inside her is attracted to Gibson, but bad blood between their families has her keeping her distance. Gibson takes his role of protector seriously, however, and when Mia is threatened, he vows to keep her safe, even if their forced proximity has them getting closer than either of them intended.
