Getting dumped in a bar by her boyfriend just weeks before her sister's all-important wedding infuriates Minerva Dobbs to no end. However, things get even uglier when Min overhears her ex, David, making a bet with Calvin Morrissey that Cal can't get Min into bed within the month. Cal doesn't accept the bet, but his close friend Tony chimes in that, of course, Cal can do it.

When Cal sees his ex-girlfriend, Cynthie, enter the bar, he wants to escape, so he decides at least to introduce himself to Min. Under the impression that Cal has accepted the bet, Min is armed for battle. But despite Min's snarly reception, something sparks between Cal and Min. Watching from the sidelines, David and Cynthie are horrified and want to make sure that nothing comes of this unique pairing.

Utilizing her own unique brand of humor and panache, Cruise delivers yet another amazingly fun and funny novel. Eccentric characters abound in this book, making each new situation slightly offbeat, touching and always hilarious. (Feb., 352 pp., $22.95)
