RT Rating

This first entry in John’s new series is a gorgeously written novel about the power of friendship and the true meaning of family. Beautifully rendered characters feel like real people, especially Jasmyn, a woman searching for somewhere to fit in. Just the right amount of romance balances out this heartfelt novel.

After a devastating tornado destroys everything she owns, Jasmyn Albright leaves the midwest for a vacation in California. Circumstances bring her to Casa de Vida, a set of seaside cottage apartments, for a stay. Jasmyn becomes acquainted with Liv McAlister, the elderly owner, and a large and varied set of neighbors who quickly become new friends. When the time comes to return home, Jasmyn isn’t sure what the best path is for her life. (HARVEST HOUSE, Jul., 352 pp., $13.99)
