Fans of Beyond the Rain will be satisfied to learn Beyond the Shadows features Cyani's delicious brother, Cyn -- yep, as in sinfully sexy. Granger continues her futuristic worldbuilding with this fantastically tight and active story about power, deception and love. This does feel a bit less lush and descriptive than its predecessor, and instead more active. Fans of vivid prose may feel disappointed; however the nonstop action will keep them turning the pages.

Cyn is about to deceive and kidnap a soon-to-be queen in the name of revolution and he can't stop fantasizing about her body. As commanding and determined as she is, he cannot help but enjoy her pixielike appearance. Once on board his ship the tension builds. Animosity and sexual attraction make a heady combination as they both struggle to achieve their political agendas and end up falling in love.

Yara is on her way home to take the throne and prevent a war. When she's intentionally waylaid she learns more about herself than she bargained for. Cyn's betrayal and her destiny as queen collide and Yara must decide her path -- is it in a world she no longer has faith in, or is it with Cyn, the man she loves?
