Miller once again delivers an entertaining story of a small town peopled with basically good folks. This first in a new series has two great main characters who play well off each other and a wonderful cast of supporting ones whose stories will be eagerly anticipated.

Formerly one of the rich and privileged of Parable, Mont., Joslyn Kirk is back in town: where she said she’d never be. However, she promised herself she’d make things right with the people her late stepfather cheated.

The illegitimate son of John Carmody, Sheriff Slade Barlow is shocked when, after ignoring him all his 35 years, John dies and leaves Slade half his fortune and half his ranch. He and Joslyn were never close, being from opposite sides of the tracks, but as Slade tries to make a home for his ex-wife’s rebellious teenage daughter, he and Joslyn begin to fall in love.
