Vampires celebrating Christmas? Who knew? Betts gives us three loosely interrelated tales about vampires with relationship problems in this collection. The first tale, “All I Vant for Christmas,” features a clever and fun approach to the topic. Although the two remaining stories don’t quite live up to the promise of the first, they are still enjoyable reading.

Wealthy, influential vampire Connor hires human event-planner Jillian to give him the Christmas that he’s always dreamed about in “All I Vant for Christmas” — despite his younger siblings who are acting out in goth extremes. Sean is “A Vampire in Her Stocking” whom Vivian finds gift-wrapped on her sofa. Vivian’s friend turned Sean into a vampire to save him from a brain tumor. Vampires Angelina and Ian have been together for decades, but Angelina still hopes for marriage. Angelina wonders what their lives would have been like if they had remained human. She gets a look at an alternate version in “It’s a Wonder- ful Bite.” (BRAVA, Oct., 352 pp., $14.00)
