Prepare to visit a nightmarish landscape in this highly entertaining sequel to Bone Song. It's a mix of horror, science fiction and crime story in a refreshingly unique plot. The chilling gothic cityscape is peopled with fascinating characters, both human and supernatural. The story is action-intense and filled with corruption and intrigue. Good luck putting this one down at bedtime.

In the necromantical world of Tristopolis it's always dark, the buildings are made of bones and zombies walk the streets. Police Lieutenant Donal Riordan is alive because he was given his girlfriend's heart when she was murdered. But Laura was a zombie -- and now he is too. That makes him a target of the Unity Party, an organization of anti-zombie persecution. In the midst of the party is the man who killed Laura -- a man who now plans to overthrow the government. Can Donal stop him for good? (BANTAM SPECTRA, Mar., 384 pp., $24.00)
