The third outing of MacKenzie’s red-hot Shades of Fury series finds the magical world in major turmoil. MacKenzie is doing a terrific job of building a complex world fronted by a truly kick-ass heroine. She’s definitely a rising star in the UF genre!

Due to the turmoil that’s roiling the Sisterhood of Furies, Marissa has taken a leave of absence from her job as chief magical investigator for the Boston PD. Although Riss has gotten her mother back, her beloved grandmother is acting very strangely. The three branches of Furies are at odds and may be heading toward civil war. Riss discovers just how dire things are when she, her mother and the Megaera are called before the ruling Triad of Deities. Someone is upsetting the balance and may be gathering an army. The evidence is pointing in a particular direction, and the Triad wants proof. With the clock ticking, getting that proof may be nearly impossible, plus it may send Riss on a collision course with one she loves. (ACE, Jul., 304 pp., $7.99)
