This sequel picks up where the last book left off, so it’s helpful if readers are familiar with the plot of Orchard’s Deadly Devotion. The main characters’ relationship develops nicely. More secrets are revealed and a mystery is solved, but there are still many questions the reader will be eager to have answered in (hopefully) the next book.
When Kate Adams attempts to do a good deed for her elderly neighbor, Verna, she ends up in trouble when she pays for some groceries with counterfeit money. After she’s rescued by Detective Tom Parker, Kate is convinced Verna knows nothing about the funny money she gave her. Kate sets out to prove it, much to Tom’s dismay. In the process, Kate picks up a stalker and arouses Verna’s son’s ire. Meanwhile, her trouble with GPC Pharmaceuticals has not gone away, and the murderer of her friend, Daisy, is out of jail and may not be held responsible for her evil acts.
