Horse trainer Patty O'Donnell and her jockey husband, Mícheál, are returning late one night to their home in Ireland when they see a light in a window. They're surprised to discover Miles O'Sullivan, a local teen who has been hiding in the house for several days. When Miles tells them that his stepfather has been beating his mother and that Miles is looking for a long-lost treasure owed to his family so that his mother may divorce his stepfather, the O'Donnells decide to help. But trouble dogs them, leading to a disappearance and a kidnapping before things are resolved. (MUNDANIA, Mar., 224 pp., $12.95)
