Can love and trust be recaptured? That is the overarching theme in this latest chapter in the Nightkeepers saga, as Patience and Brandt White-Eagle struggle to save their family and the world. Andersen has created a compelling cast of characters whose personal travails add richness to these highly entertaining novels. Another excellent job!

Having to send their twin sons away for their own safety is the final blow in the teetering marriage of warriors Patience and Brandt. Not only does their marriage suffer, but also their powers, as is demonstrated when the ceremony to bring forth Triad magic goes terribly wrong. Now to save Brandt, Patience must revisit their past to find out what curse haunts them. They are not the only ones struggling, for half-Nightkeeper/half-Xibalba Rabbit feels compelled to learn more about his long-missing mother. Time is of the essence as an ancient Aztec god-king is rising and unless they stop him, humanity will pay. (SIGNET ECLIPSE, Nov., 464 pp., $7.99)
