Brooks immediately pulls the reader into Bloodfire Quest, with its world of beguiling and dangerous creatures, rapidly intensifying problems and daring characters willing to risk their lives for the greater good. Brooks’ technique of switching between the various conflicts at points of climax keeps the suspense high and the reader engaged. The characters, who possess amazing bravery and a willingness to sacrifice themselves for others, will quickly win the sympathy of the readers.
The leader, or Ard Rhys, of the Druids is captured by the evil ruler of the Forbidding, while the Ard Rhys’ few remaining followers nearly die waiting for her to return. While the rest of the Druids are on a mission to find vital missing elfstones, Aphen is trying to keep her sister from becoming the Elcrys — the sacred tree that maintains the wall of the Forbidding.
