BLOOM AND DOOM
Genre: Mystery/Suspense/Thriller, Mystery, Amateur Sleuth
Allen’s new series is off to a great start as she brings readers into the madness of a local murder and secrets that residents will do anything to keep hidden. The characters mesh well together, and readers also get a bud of romance between main character Audrey and the hunky local baker.
Florist Audrey Bloom has studied the meanings of different types of flowers and uses this knowledge to create meaningful bouquets for brides. Her ex-best friend, Jenny Whitney, is to marry the town’s most eligible bachelor, and she comes into the Rose in Bloom to order her wedding flowers. Audrey senses that something is off. When Jenny returns to cancel her order, Audrey’s suspicions are confirmed. But now Jenny wants a job at the flower shop. Audrey sends her home with some tools to practice. When Jenny’s ex-fiancé is found dead in his car with one of the tools as the murder weapon, Jenny is the main suspect. Will Audrey and her gang be able to clear Jenny’s name, or will the real murderer strike again? (PRIME CRIME, Apr., 304 pp., $7.99)
