Single mom Kara Abbott meets K-9 officer Cole Winslow and his dog, Mel, when they rescue her after a hang-gliding accident. Mel charms Kara's suspicious son, an 8-year-old still hurt by his father's departure, while Cole quickly wins Kara's heart. Both adults have suffered greatly from prior marriages, so allowing themselves to love again presents personal challenges. Muriel Jensen's Blown Away (3) offers a warm romance with a likable collection of characters. There are, however, areas of narrative implausibility—unrealistic plot devices, childish behavior on the part of the protagonists and even a character who acts unprofessionally in his role as principal.
