Book Review

by Elizabeth George

Genre: Mystery/Suspense/Thriller, Suspense

RT Rating

George weaves together two seemingly unrelated cases, one old and one very new. A still-grieving Inspector Thomas Lynley takes further steps back into life and regular police work in this dark drama. George's dense plotting style and complex characterization are on full display as Lynley and Havers, working separately, try to uncover the truth.

The brutal stabbing of Jemina Hastings brings Lynley back to Scotland Yard. Jemina's brother Robbie and her best friend Meredith suspect that Jemina's former lover, Gordon Jossie, is involved and are determined to prove it. Woven throughout the book is the clinical recitation of another case involving the horrific murder of a toddler by three juveniles that may have a disturbing connection.
