Snyder’s third Bollywood Confidential book is an evocative fairy tale full of deep passion, dark secrets and redemptive love. Longtime fans will recognize much here, but new readers won’t have trouble settling into this world. Though the practice of telling without showing interrupts the plot in places, the emotions that fill every page of this story are very real and deeply moving, especially the secondary love story — which is all the more touching for its subtlety, and proves that true love has the power to change everything.

When feisty American-born actress Rakhee “Rocky” Varma speaks her mind during an interview, it seems all her hard work fitting into Bollywood society is for naught. Hoping to hide from the media, she agrees to stay at her co-star’s crumbling mansion outside Delhi during her shoot, but is wholly unprepared to meet Taj Ali Khan, her leading man’s older brother. Years ago, Taj was the hottest action star in Bollywood, but a horrific accident left him scarred and crippled in body and spirit. Taj is convinced his life is over, but Rocky isn’t about to let this fascinating, cynical man push her away, even at the cost of her own heart. (, dl $4.50)
