A thoroughly entertaining installment in the Sarah Booth Delaney series. The plot is solid, the killer’s motive is believable (yet a complete surprise), the red herrings are convincing and the end is delightfully thrilling. Expect the usual eccentric cast of characters. A fun read!

Sarah Booth is still recovering from a miscarriage when her friend and business partner Tinkie signs both of them up for a vacation. Tinkie doesn’t know that the hotel is also hosting a beauty pageant, but their friend CeCe is thrilled to get Tinkie’s candid photos of the contestants for the newspaper. When someone starts poisoning the top contenders, Sarah Booth and Tinkie are on the case. (MINOTAUR, Jul., 320 pp., $24.99)
