This book isn't hard to put down -- it's impossible to. There's just no good spot to take a break, since each chapter ends with a cliffhanger. Burcell builds tension with her remarkable talent for words and characterization. Fitzpatrick and Griffin are an unstoppable team, and the slow burn of attraction between them whets the appetite for more -- more tension, more excitement, more suspense.

Forensic artist Sydney Fitzpatrick is approached by special agent Zachary Griffin to sketch an unidentified skull. Sydney has an uneasy feeling about this case, which only grows stronger once the identity of the victim is unearthed. Then, when Sydney's friend is also killed and the government tries to cover up both deaths, she decides to investigate on her own.

Sydney discovers that Zach works for a covert agency looking for a map that leads to the lost Templar Treasure. Unfortunately, there are other organizations looking for it as well. As Sydney and Zach race against time to locate the map, can they save a friend before he's murdered? (HARPER, Jan., 400 pp., $7.99)
