When they met at an anti-war protest in 1969, florist Laura Martinelli and robotics engineer Brady Malone shared an immediate connection. Separated while he served in Vietnam, they married and adopted two children. Now Brady's past tests him -- and Laura. A newspaper article about an incident involving Brady in Vietnam triggers a heart attack. The family rallies around him, but as Brady begins rehab, a chasm opens between him and Laura -- and both wonder if it's permanent. Karen Rose Smith's The Bracelet (4) is a realistic but compassionate portrait of a marriage and the two flawed people in it. This is a very satisfying read.
