Ashley has been in love with Jake Crenshaw for as long as she can remember. At 16, she made her move and was crushed when Jake rejected her. But now he needs her. Jake learns he has a daughter he never knew about, and she's the one person he can call for help. Ashley and Jake soon find themselves playing house as they struggle to keep up with a busy 3-year-old who can't understand why her mother has abandoned her. Don't be put off by the unusually long narrative passage at the beginning of Annette Broadrick's Branded (4); it leads to a funny and sometimes touching story as Jake learns that he loves Ashley and his newly discovered daughter as well. The only flaw in this story is Jake turning to Ashley for help, instead of someone he's actually had contact with in the last 10 years.
